High Volumes of Traffic Expected this Christmas

Posted in General News on Monday, December 18th, 2023

According to a survey of 2,100 people conducted by the RAC and INRIX motorists are planning a total of 21 million car journeys in the run-up to Christmas Day with 60% of these trips being taken in the last three days prior to the 25th.

The period covering Friday 22nd and Christmas Eve is expected to see an estimated 13.5 million journeys this year, an increase of 20% compared with last year. While Christmas Eve journeys match the number of trips expected on the Friday this year at 3.2 million, the Friday will be far busier as those heading off for festivities share the roads with commuters and parents collecting children from school. Roads will also be busy on Christmas Day and Boxing Day with an average of 3.5 million trips expected, but serious delays should be less of a risk without the normal variety of traffic.
