The Big Event showcases a large range of vehicles available on the Motability Scheme
The Motability Scheme will be bringing a two-day show, The Big Event, to Edinburgh for the first time this September, helping even more people in Scotland to access independent mobility. The event will take place on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th September, from 9am to 4pm.
The Big Event provides a great opportunity for disabled people and their families to see over 100 vehicles available to lease through the Scheme, including cars, Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs), scooters and powered wheelchairs, all in one place. Everyone is welcome at this free information-gathering event held at The Royal Highland Centre. There’s no need to pre-book, and there’s plenty of free, accessible parking available.
EV Information Hub – in Scotland for the first time
Visitors to The Big Event Edinburgh, can visit the popular Electric Vehicle (EV) Information Hub. The EV Information Hub offers the chance to find out more about electric vehicles and charging at home and on the go. It’s a one-stop-shop for everything charging where visitors can meet the Motability Scheme charging provider and have their EV charging questions answered, see demonstrations, and discover the latest EV app technology available.
On display
Over 70 cars, WAVs and vehicle adaptations available on the Scheme will be on display at the Royal Highland Centre. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore these vehicles and adaptations, offering a fantastic opportunity to find the mobility solution that’s right for them. A wide range of over 35 scooters and powered wheelchairs will also be on display.
Test drives – cars, scooters and powered wheelchairs
Visitors will have the unique opportunity to take on-the-road test drives in a range of cars with a professional driver. Test drives will be available to experience as either a driver or passenger and visitors can choose from a range of standard production cars, or vehicles fitted with popular driving adaptations. Visitors to The Big Event Edinburgh can also try out many of the scooters and powered wheelchairs on display on the indoor scooter test drive track.

There will plenty of helpful experts on-hand at The Big Event Edinburgh to answer questions and provide advice for happy and safe motoring. Advisors from the Motability Scheme customer services team, experts from Scheme partners, and the Motability Foundation will be attending the event and ready to talk to visitors on the day.
Family fun
A children’s play area with a bouncy castle, face painting and balloon modelling will be available to use free of charge at The Big Event Edinburgh. There will also be access to a quiet room along with sensory equipment such as ear defenders, for any guests who need them.

Katie Clare, The Big Event Edinburgh event manager, said: “We’re very excited to be returning to Edinburgh and even more pleased to be hosting our first two-day event in Scotland. After sadly postponing last year’s scheduled event, we are looking forward to showcasing a large display of cars, WAVs, scooters and powered wheelchairs to our Scottish customers. The opportunity to test drive a range of adapted and standard production cars is always popular with visitors, so it’s fantastic to be able to offer more than ever before across a two-day event. We can’t wait to welcome our visitors and to share all there is to know about the Motability Scheme.”
