DVSA Releases Pack to Support Deaf Candidates
Posted in General News on Friday, February 25th, 2022
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has released a Deaf Candidate Pack to help examiners communicate with deaf candidates during their driving test. The pack includes instructions, cues and visual prompt cards to aid communication. All DVSA approved driving instructors have already been trained in how to use the pack so it will be utilised whenever an examiner is with a deaf candidate. Other forms of communication such as lip reading and British Sign Language, where possible, can still be used at the candidate’s request.
The DVSA is proud to say that the pack has been endorsed by various stakeholders including the Royal Association for Deaf People, the Disability Driving Instructors Association, the Approved Driving Instructors National Joint Council, Driving Mobility, the Motor Schools Association of Great Britain and the Driving Instructors Association.
