M3 Junction 9 Improvements Scheme
National Highways have asked us to update you on the M3 Junction 9 Improvements Scheme. One of the activities they will be undertaking as part of the project is the building of the new M3 Junction 9 gyratory.
To build the new bridge they will need to work within the gyratory itself, which means they need to close the M3 junction 9 gyratory footpath during construction.
From Monday 7 April 2025 this footpath will be closed to pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders.
Currently they have yellow barriers in place around Easton Lane where the path crosses the compound haul road. There is also a Plant Vehicle Marshall (PVM) managing access, while there is work going on. The path itself is not yet closed, however needs to be managed due to vehicle moments in and out of the compound. The PVM may not be present while there’s no vehicle movements to manage, and crossing is safe.
From the 7 April 2025, the path will remain closed until the new bridge that includes the footpath is opened, which they will work hard to complete as soon as possible.
There will be several diversions in place depending on the direction you’re heading in. You can view all the diversion routes here: M3 junction 9 footway closure diversions.
As soon as they are able to do so safely, they will open the footpath.
They understand this closure may cause some disruption. However, the improvements they are delivering are more extensive than just junction 9 of the M3 and include new and improved Public Right of Way routes, more on which can be found in their newsletter linked here - Rights of Way Plans.
