Uninsured Vehicle Hotspots Revealed

Posted in General News on Wednesday, November 20th, 2024

The Midlands is a hotspot for uninsured drivers with Birmingham at the top of the list, according to new data from the Motor Insurers Bureau (MIB). The MIB data reveals the areas most impacted by hit-and-run and uninsured drivers.

Eight of the top 15 locations are in the West Midlands. The Thames Valley, South Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, Northumbria, and London are some areas with high rates of uninsured driving. Interestingly, with 30 reports filed to MIB, Croydon had the most claims against uninsured drivers in the UK. Despite this, the region only came in at number 176 on the hotspot list because of its dense population. The MIB’s efforts with UK police to remove uninsured drivers from the road align with the study. To focus their efforts, police departments will use information supplied by MIB and its partners. Access to Navigate, the main database of all active auto insurance policies under MIB’s management, is part of this. They will also use Operation Tutelage markers, which are placed on vehicles that have previously been detected by ANPR cameras and cross-referenced with Navigate data. Operation Tutelage markers are used to identify uninsured vehicles, which are then flagged for police attention and dealt with on the side of the road.
