Park Access Accreditation Surpasses 1,000 Car Parks

Posted in General News on Wednesday, June 19th, 2024

Disabled Motoring UK (DMUK) is proud to announce that we now have more than 1,000 accredited car parks on our Park Access scheme. The accreditation is jointly owned by DMUK and the British Parking Association (BPA) and it is awarded to car parks that are accessible to disabled motorists. Each car park undergoes an assessment by specially trained BPA Area Managers. All BPA Area Managers are qualified auditors, and they work to identify whether car parks meet specific accessibility criteria stipulated by DMUK. All aspects of the car park are covered from the suitability of its disabled parking bays to the accessibility of the payment machines. DMUK Chief Executive, Graham Footer commented: “Consistency in the accessibility of car parks is crucial for disabled people. If just one element of a car park is not accessible when a disabled motorist arrives it can force them to return home without doing what they set out to do or accessing the services they needed. Therefore, our Park Access Accreditation can be a great help in giving disabled motorists the confidence they need when travelling. I am thrilled that we have reached the milestone of having more than 1,000 accredited car parks on the scheme.”
