Paralympian's WAV is Offering Up New Horizons

Posted in General News on Friday, July 15th, 2022

Allied Mobility recently caught up with one of their customers, Paralympic Boccia player, Dan Bentley, from Dunlow in Essex.  Not long ago, Dan took delivery of his new Peugeot Rifter Horizon™ from Allied Mobility, his very first wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) and he’s delighted with the convenience his WAV has brought him.

Hoist Hassle

Dan lives with Cerebral Palsy and uses a wheelchair full time.  He’s been a keen boccia player for many years, earning incredible Paralympic achievements as part of Team GB in Beijing and London and even bringing home a gold medal.  Dan leads a busy life, juggling boccia training with his job and trying to squeeze in enough time to socialise with friends and family.  To get him from A to B, he originally had a standard car with a specialised hoist for his wheelchair.  But the time-consuming process of using the hoist was a hassle, especially in the unpredictable UK weather.

Dan says: “The hoist just took so long and when you’re loading and unloading a chair in bad weather it becomes a bit difficult.”

Finding the Right Fit

It was while reading a disability magazine that Dan came across an advert showcasing Allied Mobility’s range of wheelchair accessible cars and the convenience of a WAV appealed to him.  After some online research and a phone call with his local Allied Mobility advisor, Karen, Dan was reassured that a wheelchair accessible vehicle would be the right fit for his lifestyle.  To make sure, he arranged a free home demonstration of the Horizon™ Plus so he could get a feel for it and ensure it could accommodate his powerchair.

A New Horizon

During his home demonstration, Dan tried out Horizon™ Plus’ lightweight ramp and secure wheelchair restraints.  Aside from being a comfortable vehicle to drive, its long wheelbase allowed Dan to easily enter and exit the car in his wheelchair and gave him room to move about comfortably.  No more waiting around in the rain for his hoist!  It wasn’t just the vehicle itself that impressed Dan however, he was glad to have peace of mind knowing that should he have any questions or concerns, Allied Mobility was just a phone call away and always ready to help.

Dan explains: “I’m thankful for Allied Mobility for their helpfulness.  They’re also easy to contact if I’ve got a problem.”

On the Road Again

With the new addition of his Horizon™ Plus, Dan’s full life and jam-packed schedule has been made much easier.  For those thinking about exploring the world of WAVs, Dan is sure that there’s something for everyone in Allied Mobility’s range of wheelchair accessible cars.

He says: “They’re so adaptable to everyone’s needs.”

Peugeot Rifter Horizon™ and Horizon™ Plus are available exclusively from Allied Mobility. All of their WAVs are available to buy, rent or via the Motability Scheme.  For more information about Peugeot Horizon™, call Allied on 0800 916 0057 or visit alliedmobility.com.

It is nice to hear someone has a vehicle suited to them. This is not the case for me my 3 years are up in September and I have been looking for a replacement line for like with my current vehicle. It is proving impossible and the excess payments (. I paid £1700 last time) have gone up by a huge amount raging from £3500 up to £5000. I do not understand by the increases a choice is down to 1 or 2 but they do have the same suitability as my current vehicle and as Motability is a charity and are making huge profits grieves me . The scheme is very good but now pricing is making them non viable option and not a charity
