Motability Scheme's One Big Day Events are Back

Posted in General News on Friday, March 4th, 2022

The Motability Scheme’s face-to-face events are back for 2022 with the return of The Big Event and the regional One Big Days. These events are the perfect way for visitors to find out everything they need to know about the Scheme, see the latest range of products available and have their questions answered by the experts, all in accessible locations across the UK. Every event offers free entry with plenty of free parking and there’s no need to book, visitors can simply turn up on the day.

The events programme kicks off on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 May 2022, with The Big Event at the NEC in Birmingham. This two-day flagship show is the biggest event of the year and showcases the largest display of cars, Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs), powered wheelchairs and scooters available on the Motability Scheme. Plus, exclusively available at The Big Event are expert speaker sessions on a range of motoring and mobility topics.

New for 2022, at all the events, is an Electric Vehicle Info Hub. Designed to help visitors understand if an electric vehicle is right for them, they can explore a selection of electric vehicles, discover the latest charging app technology and home charging points, and speak to electric vehicle experts.

The events also provide the opportunity to test drive adapted and standard cars, supported by a professional instructor, to help visitors decide which vehicles are best suited to their individual needs. Test drives can be booked on the day – visitors just need to bring along their full driving licence and choose a car to test drive. To give people a chance to try out different products, there is also an indoor scooter test drive area at all locations.

In addition to the in-person show, The Big Event 2022 will also be live-streamed for anyone who is not able to attend. Visit motabilityonebigday.co.uk to stream the event. Louise Vranic, One Big Day Event Manager, said: "We're really looking forward to the return of our much-loved face-to-face events this year and we can't wait to finally see everyone again! We have lots of exciting things planned for The Big Event including a great line up of speakers and our all-new Electric vehicle info hub - we know this will be particularly helpful for many visitors."

I was born on the 7th September 1946.I had a stroke on the 6th June 2012. I am told that I do not qualify for the motability scheme ,if I had the stroke a year earlier I would and I would have kept the car for as long as I could drive. We all know of the vast pay packets of Mr M Betts and others along with the vast profits referred to by Frank Field as "beyond appalling". Only 36 per cent of the eligible customers now use the scheme open up the entrance to the scheme so it is available to more people.

There are a lot of disabled motorists in the south east and my own town Worthing. There should be an event this side of the country. How are we meant to drive or use multiple trains to get there zoom is a band aid how many are not tech savvy? It is a shame but I will look at zoom.

In view of the recent bad publicity re take home pay, bonuses etc of the board. The terrible write up that Motability from the Commons Work and Pensions Committee in particular Frank Field. The fact that only 36 per cent of the eligible customers use the scheme etc etc. Would it not be sensible to open the scheme up to entrants of all ages, ie in particular the over 65`s instead of the stupid system that operates now. They are the people who need the scheme.

Why are Drive from Wheelchair vehicles so expensive, way beyond the pocket of the average disabled person on benefits? And if you have a little in savings you cannot get a grant from Motability, despite their vast profits!

I would like to lease an all electric vehicle that will take a mobility scooter or golf buggy or an electric trike that can be ridden into the vehicle. Is there such an electric vehicle that is capable of this. I think Peugeott do a petrol/diesel version. Unfortunately Birminingham NEC is too far to travel to find out if there is anything like this. I have been a customer of Motability for 12 years mainly because i have some disabilities and one of them weakens my muscles and i was worried that i may have a problem with my car whilst some distance from home and would not be able to walk for help i also have Parkinson's and cannot use a mobile. I have been driving for 50 years without having having an accident until November 2021 when trying to park in an underground parking space where there was just enough space for 2 cars between concrete posts. In an effort to avoid hitting the car already parked i hit the post and damaged the headlight and wing. I have a letter from RSA Saying they have recorded this in November 2021. I can see my car in my disabled bay outside my house with the same damage that should have been repaired 5 months ago. When my lease was due for renewal and the car still damaged they kindly extended my lease for 6 months so that i can still keep paying them. Is this why they are so rich because it is not for repairs

Agree with other comments, an event in the south east please, outer London. Never been as travel is too complex.
