Second-hand EV Sales Rising

Posted in General News on Thursday, February 17th, 2022

Sales of used battery powered electric vehicles (EVs) increased by 119.1% last year in comparison to 2020. A total of 40,228 battery powered EVs were sold in 2021. Sales of hybrid vehicles have also increased by 50.6% with strict emissions regulations becoming more and more common in city centers and the 2030 ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles growing ever closer, the demand for alternatively fuelled vehicles is intensifying. Chief Executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, Mike Hawes said: “It’s good to see the used car market return to growth, even if activity is still below where we were pre-pandemic. With the global shortage of semiconductors set to ease later this year, releasing the squeeze on new car supply, we expect more of the latest, cleanest and zero emission models to become available for second owners.”
