We Need Your help to make EVs more Accessible

DMUK is becoming increasingly involved in various projects to make electric vehicles (EVs) a more viable option for disabled motorists ahead of the EV switchover. While I am not against the idea of having an EV, the government does not appear to have given any thought to drivers, be they disabled or not, who live in high rises or terraces. Where are we supposed to recharge the battery(ies)? Not everyone is lucky enough to live in a property with it’s own driveway

I have a recharge hybrid vehicle and use a hoist abs powered Wheelchair. It is important to me that ev vehicles and charging points are accessible or have service assistance for ppl with mobility issues.

I extended my last motability vehicle for 2 years in the hope of there being a better choice of electric vehicles and better infrastructure for charging but neither have improved. I have just ordered a petrol WAV with limited choice partly due to my height of 6ft 4ins and limited headroom in all but 1 vehicle.

Living in the South Wales valleys it’s so important a rival to have a EV as you can’t charge it due to on street parking. The range is united in many cases is incorrect on everyday use, and it’s lights on the tv and cold weather. It could be the new Diesel scandal with mileage and charging

My wife is a wheelchair user and we travel 200 mile to see family. I cannot see a practical way we can do this with an EV! I have seen no suggestions of how and when a solution for WAVS might be put forward. If you travel at night in winter, how do you keep warm and what reduction in range would an EV have?

The biggest problems are lack of charging points, range of travel between charging points and not enough development and availability with WAVS, especially with drive from or transfer to drive.

I am looking at buying an EV for my next car. I need one that seats 5 and has room for a hoist and scooter. So far they are so large I cannot access the drivers seat.( the one I have now is a petrol.) I gather a step can be added. However my main concern is how long does the charge last and how long it takes to charge. I hope to find these answers. Chris
