Your Guide to Approved Used Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles

Posted in General News on Friday, July 30th, 2021

If you are considering purchasing a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) and you require a vehicle in just a few weeks, a second-hand vehicle could be the answer. Sirus Automotive specialise in Upfront Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles and sell new and ‘Approved Used’ WAV’s. Their range includes Drive From Wheelchair, Internal Transfer and Wheelchair Passenger Upfront vehicles. Sirus gives us their advice on what to look out for if you are considering this as an option.

“Many of our customers are opting for an Approved Used WAV. Consider the following in order to help you decide what is best for you, and make sure you ask about things such as aftersales service, warranty, refurbishment and any other inclusions such as a valid MOT or Roadside Assist.

  • Timing – Unlike new WAV’s which can often take several months, an Approved Used WAV can be delivered within 1-2 weeks*.
  • Bespoke adaptations – you can add additional adaptations such as a wheelchair securing system/driving adaptations. Ensure the company you are dealing with can offer this service.
  • Aftersales support and warranty – With all Sirus vehicles we include a 2-year RAC Warranty and 12-month RAC breakdown cover.
  • Refurbishment – Sirus conduct an 82 Point RAC Approved Preparation Check and include an MOT with all used WAV’s. (minimum 9-months).
  • Finance – Sirus work with Mallard Finance who offer various finance packages to suit all budgets. Approved Used may be an attractive option to people who do not qualify for the Motability Scheme or prefer to purchase a vehicle as opposed to Contract Hire.

I am looking towards bunting a WAV in the next eighteen months. I would like to drive from my wheelchair. What limitations are there to accommodate this?
