Social Media Used to Improve Rail Access

Posted in General News on Thursday, May 6th, 2021

Avanti West Coast is the first train operator in the UK to launch a dedicated social media platform for its disabled customers. The forum means that passengers on the West Coast Mainline can connect with each other along with a social media team which is there to provide specialist support. The rail operator has launched a group called Accessible Rail Travel with Avanti West Coast on Facebook with the aim of building an online community to assist disabled customers and give them the opportunity to help others by drawing on their own experience. The hope is that this will create incredibly useful insights and help the operator to offer accessible travel for all. Tony Jennings, Co-Chair of Avanti West Coast’s external Accessibility Panel, said: “Accessible social media plays an important part in welcoming and reassuring disabled people back onto the railways and helps with journey planning, giving us the confidence to travel. I’m really looking forward to being involved with the group.”
