Road Safety Week 2020

Posted in General News on Friday, October 30th, 2020

This year Brake, the road safety charity is running its annual Road Safety Week campaign between 16th and 22nd November. The mantra of Road Safety Week 2020 is ‘No Need to Speed’ The aim of the campaign is to make everybody consider the impact that speeding has on other road users and how keeping within the speed limit is crucial to the safety of everybody on the road whether they be cyclists, motorists or pedestrians.

‘No Need to Speed’ was announced as the theme for road safety week following the results of the charity’s ’How safe are the streets where you live’ survey. This survey of 1,700 people from around the UK revealed that only 25% of people believe that people travel at a safe speed on their street. The survey also revealed that two thirds of people view motorised traffic as the biggest threat to their safety on the street where they live. Director of Campaigns for Brake, Joshua Harris said: “Road Safety Week provides a unique opportunity, every year, to focus attention on how the safety of our roads impacts all our daily lives. Speed plays a part in every crash and just 1mph can mean the difference between life and death on the roads. This Road Safety Week we want to help everyone understand why speed matters and to join together to say there is ‘No need to speed’ on our roads.”
