Summer Staycation Campaign

Posted in General News on Friday, July 24th, 2020

As more and more people have begun driving around the UK in search of their holiday destination this summer Highways England (HE) is urging motorists to make a few crucial vehicle safety checks before setting off on any long journey. These checks include checking the travel conditions, checking fluid levels and tyre pressures, and making sure that any loads are well secured. If you are going to be towing throughout your journey it is important to make sure you have the correct licence and insurance to do so, check your vehicle is connected correctly and ensure the load is secure and within the weight limits for your vehicle.

HE has stated that almost 20% of the vehicle breakdowns that occurred on major A-roads and motorways between July and August last year were due to tyre issues and more than 1,200 motorists broke down over the same period last year because they ran out of fuel. The Head of Road Safety, Engineering and Standards at Highways England said: “Checking your tyres, oil, water, lights and fuel doesn’t take long – but it will help keep you and your loved ones safe. And if you’re on a long journey, remember to take breaks. Let’s all enjoy summer safely.”
