Photocard Driving Licence Extension

Posted in General News on Wednesday, July 15th, 2020

Photocard driving licences that will reach the end of their 10 year validity before 31st August 2020 will be automatically granted a seven month extension. The extension will be granted from the expiry date on each particular licence and drivers will not have to take any action at this time. When the extension comes to an end people will be sent a renewal reminder. The DVLA has now stated that this extension also applies to situations where a person's entitlement to drive is due to expire before 31st August.

In the cases where a driver has already applied to renew their photocard licence online this will be processed as normal. If someone has already submitted a paper application to renew their photocard licence they will experience delays, but the seven month extension will be applied to their licence in the meantime.
