The DWP Wants your Views

Posted in General News on Tuesday, October 15th, 2019

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is running a consultation “to explore ways to improve the support for people with disabilities and health conditions”. As part of this consultation the DWP will be holding a number of regional workshop events to give disabled people a chance to express their views on the social security system. The first workshop event will be held on 22nd October at the Vassall Centre in Bristol and the second event will be held on 24th October at the Carriageworks in Leeds. Both events will be held from 1:00pm to 3pm and there will also be quitter ‘drop in sessions’ between 2pm and 3pm for those that would rather not be part of a group session. The workshops will cover a range of topics including:

  • How the disability social security system could be improved to better support the needs of disabled people
  • Whether or not there should be compulsory work related conditionality and sanctions
  • How the decision making and appeals process for Employment Support Allowance (ESA) and Personal Independence Payment (PIP) could be improved
  • How the DWP could support disabled people more effectively to help them find employment

The DWP has stated that those who attend either of the workshops will receive a £30 voucher and their travel expenses will be paid within reason. If you would like to request to attend one of the workshops or find out more information you can do so by emailing wca.consultationevents@dwp.gsi.gov.uk

Thank you for invite but too far for me to travel. If you hold one in the South I will endeavour to travel. I am in Bedfordshire

A nice idea and hopefully the feedback to DWP will be helpful in future planning....but..... reading this today [15th October] means only 7 day's notice to the first one! Far too short notice I imagine for many who might like to contribute but have to juggle the work and domestic programme.

Once again, the world ends at Bristol! There is an entire peninsula if you turn left! It is too short a session for those of us in Cornwall and Devon to justify travelling all the way to Bristol. Maybe, with better advanced warning? All things are possible, But thank you, anyway

Hi I am thinking there needs to be many more venues, on many more dates, even into the new year if needs be. Then perhaps one would suit me.
