Thousands Could Be Missing Out on Greater Independence Due to Lack of Awareness Around Vehicle Adaptations

Mobility in Motion, one of the UK’s leading vehicle adaptation specialists, has launched a nationwide survey to better understand how disability, long-term health conditions and limited mobility affect people’s motoring habits, whether as a driver or passenger. 

The company is inviting disabled people, people with long-term health conditions, carers, family members and anyone affected by mobility challenges to share their experiences. 

For many people, a car provides far more than transport. It can offer independence, access to work and healthcare, opportunities to see family and friends, and the freedom to take part in everyday life. However, many people remain unaware of vehicle adaptations that could help them continue driving or make travelling as a passenger easier and more comfortable. 
The survey aims to help Mobility in Motion understand why some people have reduced or stopped driving, considered giving up, or never learned to drive, as well as the practical, emotional and financial barriers they face. 

Matt Fieldhouse, Group Managing Director at Mobility in Motion, said: “We regularly speak to people who tell us they didn’t realise vehicle adaptations existed or assumed their mobility challenges meant they had reached the end of the road. 

“But maintaining independence isn’t only about driving. For many people, it’s about being able to get into a car comfortably, travel safely and continue taking part in everyday life.” 

The findings will help identify whether better information and guidance could help more people continue driving, return to driving or travel more confidently. 

The survey has been extended until the end of August and takes just a few minutes to complete.
