Norfolk Constabulary presents Norman Baker MP with their pioneering Safe Scoot DVD
Tuesday, October 18th, 2011The ceremonial presentation of Norfolk Constabulary’s Safe Scoot scheme takes place at the Department for Transport Offices in London today (18/10/11), they will be presenting the DVD and trainer’s pack to the Minister for Transport, Norman Baker MP.
The DVD and trainers pack promotes the safe use of mobility scooters. Norfolk Partners Against Crime Taskforce (PACT) in partnership with Norfolk Constabulary have begun using the DVD and trainers pack as the basis for running mobility scooter safety awareness events across the county.
Helen Dolphin, Director of Policy and Campaigns at Disabled Motoring UK said: “We want people with disabilities to be as mobile as possible and enjoy going out and about on their scooters, but we also want them to be safe. As a charity we have been involved in the recent government consultation on mobility scooters, and improvements in training and assessment is something we strongly advocate. The Safe Scoot scheme is an excellent way to make sure disabled people know how to use their scooter safely” (Helen was supposed to be at the presentation today, but due to train cancellations and delays was unable to attend)
Presented by actress Sheila Read from the TV series Benidorm, the DVD provides safety tips and techniques, guidance on the Highway Code and advice on buying your scooter.
