Disabled Motoring UK announce inaugural award winners

Monday, September 19th, 2011

Red Wheelies

The inaugural Disabled Motoring UK award winners have been announced at a prestigious ceremony at the Goodwood Hotel, held on Friday 16th September, during the Goodwood Revival Festival.
The awards celebrates and recognises those people and organisations that have made a positive contribution to the day-to-day lives of disabled individuals or inspired them to live their lives to full, regardless of their circumstances. The Goodwood Revival Festival is the world’s most popular historic motor race meeting and the hope is that by running the awards alongside the nostalgic festival, the advancements made for disabled motorists, will be clear and will help inspire another generation of achievement.
Winners, were based around the UK, including Scotland and Northern Ireland and included motor-racing star Nicolas Hamilton, Cambridge City Council, Peatlands Park and mobility scooter display team the Red Wheelies.
Nominations for each award came from members of Disabled Motoring UK and featured a range of companies and individuals from around the UK and beyond. A team of judges from Disabled Motoring UK, the British Parking Association and Disabled Motoring UK’s marketing and events team The Lively Crew decided the winners.
Disabled Motoring UK Director of Policy and Campaigns Helen Dolphin said “We are always amazed at the dedication and achievements of our members to push the boundaries of what is perceived possible by disabled people and we are delighted to be able to formally recognise the advancements being made to improve the day-to-day lives of disabled people in the UK. We also wanted to recognise the valuable work that many organisations make towards improving their accessibility and service for disabled individuals. We know that our work is not completed however and we hope that these awards will help inspire further progress on the road to equality.”
